In the field of science & technology, approved standards, specifications, guidelines & codes are critically followed and adhered to. “YOU DON’T SAY!!!” would be your first response. This is because we know that such standards or specifications are developed, written, and published by intellectuals, on highly and excessively studied research.

In India, it is mandatory to strictly follow such published guidelines, standards & specifications provided by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for all products, whether manufactured, imported, assembled etc. We are proud to have an amazing organisation that consistently works and improves on providing superlative research material and published work. The “Make in India” initiative and its success is proof enough of the value & importance of BIS.

For the Reinforcement Steel industry, the BIS has formulated and published a very well-explained and detailed standards document, the IS-1786 (2008) on “High Strength Deformed Steel Bars And Wires For Concrete Reinforcement -Specification”. The standard was first published in the year 1961 and has consistently been updated from time to time with the advancement of technology.

The standard explains and provides information on considerations of design parameters, methods & principles and required material properties during various types of construction associated with zones and geographical factors.

It then, explains & states confirming guidelines for the manufacturing techniques involved in the process of current technological advancement of HSD bars. Herein, the standard states detailed values and parameters the HSD bars must comply with, such as the chemical composition and the mechanical properties, in order to be accepted and used in construction activities.

Lastly, it also provides detailed instructions and guidelines on the Bend and Bond properties of the HSD bars, to be followed in order to achieve safe & valued construction/reinforcement of structures.

We at Mahalaxmi TMT Bars, cannot emphasize enough and are always highlighting the importance of Manufacturing Standards & Practices provided by the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Mahalaxmi TMT is BIS approved with the ISI mark under license number CM/L – 7652078. A copy of the license is available on our website wherein one may find the allowed and approved list of products.

Mahalaxmi TMT is approved for FE-500, FE-550 and FE-550 D grades, with a complete operational manufacturing unit located at Gokulshirgaon MIDC, Kolhapur.

The equivalent standards to IS 1786(2008) are ASTM A615/A615M-22 (USA), BS 4429 2005 (UK), AS/NZS 4671:11 (Australia/NZ) and others.

Stay tuned for more discussion on the information provided in the IS 1786 standard. We will be explaining the importance of test methods, data, and analysis, as well as their applicability in various zones, considerations for non-confirming data/tests, and other important observations and studies for on-site construction activities.

STAY STRONG, STAY BLESSED!
