Steel is a widely used material in construction and engineering projects due to its strength, durability, and flexibility. However, reinforcement steel bars must be composed of specific elements to ensure the integrity of the structure being built. Sulphur and phosphorus are two such elements that can have both positive and negative effects on the properties of reinforcement steel bars. In this series of shorticles (short-articles), we will explore how these elements impact reinforcement steel bars, what advantages there are to using them, their long-term effects on corrosion resistance and ductility, as well as what Indian standard specifications exist for their use. The series will be posted into seven different shorticles, where each day we will cover a topic from the S & P series. So, if you’re interested in finding out more about the effects of sulphur and phosphorus in steel reinforcement bars, read on!
